Thank You!

The Australian Short Story Festival secured its place as a significant event in the Australian literary calendar following the outstanding success of our inaugural festival held in Perth last weekend, October 21-23.

More than 1100 of you attended the three-day festival, showcasing some of Australia’s most celebrated writers and a unique line-up of storytellers in the oral and recorded traditions.

Highlights included sessions featuring Parashar Kulkarni, winner of the prestigious Commonwealth Short Story Prize, accomplished Australian writers Ryan O’Neill, Ellen van Neerven, Julie Koh, Susan Midalia and David Whish-Wilson.  Emerging Voices, Voices from the West and Gendering Stories all proved to be highly popular.  Small groups of passers-by gathered to hear the streetside readings and joined in the walk to various locations, and dual Miles Franklin winner, Kim Scott captivated the audience as he read in language and explained the process involved in the Wirlomin Noongar Language and Stories Project.

Thanks to each and every one of you for making the festival so intimate, enlightening, and unforgettable. The next Australian Short Story Festival takes place in Adelaide, in October, 2017. Watch this space for more info, confirmed authors, and community collaborations as they come to hand.

Thank you, always.

Best wishes,

Festival Program Manager Jason Cleary and the board of management of the inaugural Australian Short Story Festival
