Australian Short Story Festival returns to Perth!
The Australian Short Story Festival will once again deliver a weekend of dynamic and engaging events to celebrate the expression of stories in its shorter form. Over 30 writers, actors, musicians and storytellers will appear over the weekend of October 19-21, 2018, offering stimulating discussions, fun street-side readings, lively music and Aboriginal visual art. Aspiring writers will be motivated by workshops run by experienced writers, and by valuable advice from publishers and editors.
Co-founded by Margaret River Press and MidnightSun Publishing, the Festival is now in its third year. Held in Perth in 2016 and Adelaide in 2017, it has proven to be enormously popular with audiences from around Australia. The 2018 Festival will once again be hosted by the Centre for Stories in Northbridge, and will this year extend to the Alex Hotel, Gallery Central at North Metropolitan TAFE and the City of Perth Library.
A wonderful line-up of interstate writers includes Jennifer Down, Laura Elvery, Anthony Macris and Roanna Gonsalves, winner of the 2018 NSW Premiers Award Multicultural Prize. Roanna has said that she “can’t wait to get to Perth for the Australian Short Story Festival. It will be like going home to my tribe: readers, writers, lovers of the short story. It’s the only festival in Australia dedicated to celebrating this powerful literary form. What’s not to love?” Internationally acclaimed writer Maria Takolander will deliver the Closing Address. The Festival is also keen to celebrate the work of writers, musicians and actors from Perth and regional Western Australia, so that audiences can hear and see the great talent we have right on our doorstep.
Chair of this year’s Festival, award-winning writer Susan Midalia, is proud of a program committed to cultural, racial and sexual diversity. There will be something for everyone come October: lovers of story, music, visual art, wine, humour and excellent company, and the opportunity to meet with some of Australia’s most thought-provoking and entertaining arts practitioners.”
Tickets will go on sale Monday September 3rd!
