The 2021 Australian Short Story Festival will be held in Adelaide from November 5th to November 7th. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Adelaide’s city centre in the University of South Australia’s city west campus, the festival will bring together award winning short story writers from around Australia and overseas for three days of workshops, book launches, readings and panels that celebrate the art of short form story telling.
As the only festival to focus specifically on the short story format in Australia, the ASSF 2021 is looking forward to an exciting weekend of exploration and celebration of some of Australia’s most talented and prolific storytellers. Among the 2021 festival’s diverse line-up of authors are award-winning writers Maxine Beneba Clarke, Cate Kennedy and Sean Williams, as well as new and emerging writers Melissa Manning, Emma Ashmere, Barry Lee Thompson and Margaret Hickey, coming together to discuss a wide variety of subjects such as the short story cycle, place, character and subversive storytelling. Along with book launches for several up-and-coming collections, the festival will also offer writers the opportunity to celebrate their short story collections released during the Covid crises of 2020 and re-introduce readers and patrons to their fabulous works.
After a short break for the pandemic in 2020, the Australian Short Story Festival is finally right around the corner and we are very excited to once again welcome everyone to Adelaide in November. The 2021 program will be announced on the ASSF website and all of our social media platforms in the coming weeks. Tickets will go on sale from the 26th of August and will be available to purchase from the Australian Short Story Festival website.
