About the festival

The Australian Short Story Festival is an annual celebration of short form storytelling. The Festival brings together local, national and international short story authors and oral storytellers in a culturally diverse and vibrant celebration of storytelling in the shorter form.

27 OCTOBER 2022 UPDATE: The ‘Writing Flash Fiction’ and ‘Crafting the Short Story’ workshops have ONE TICKET REMAINING! Each event is $50. Grab your lucky last ticket here.

Tickets to the Opening Night Gala, all day Saturday and all day Sunday are still available for $20 each.

The 2022 program has been released!

The program for the 2022 Festival, to be held at the Fremantle Arts Centre from 28th-30th October, features some of the best short storytellers from Australia and around the world, including John Kinsella, Sheila Armstrong, Fiona Robertson, Rashida Murphy and Sean O’Beirne.

In thirty sessions across one beautiful weekend, writers will discuss topics like the family, the land, and the future, interrogate the many sides of truth and the boundaries of humour, and consider the dilemmas of how to capture the perfect opening line and what to do when your editor wants to bin your favourite story.

Accompanying the panel sessions are live music, workshops, children’s storytelling, live readings, publishing advice, book launches, author signings and more.

There will be two food vans on site, and there are three cafes within easy walking distance. Or, if you like a picnic, why not pack a bag and dine outdoors on the luscious Arts Centre grounds?

Tickets are available through Trybooking.
