In 2024, the Australian Short Story Festival will take place from 22-24 November at the beautiful University of Notre Dame Australia Fremantle campus. An exciting program will include writing workshops, panel discussions, interviews, a literary mock-debate and a great deal of fun, featuring some of the best short story writers from around Australia and from overseas.

Ahead of the full program’s release, the ASSF committee is delighted to announce some of the featured writers for 2024: Catherine McNamara (Italy), Pushcart- and Prime Minister’s Literary Awards-nominated author of The Carnal Fugues; Eugen Bacon (Vic), the 2024 University of Tasmania Hedberg Writer-in-Residence; John Kinsella (WA), multi-award-winning author of over forty books, including the forthcoming collection Beam of Light; Cate Kennedy (Vic), author of the Stella Prize-shortlisted collection Like a House on Fire; Rashida Murphy (WA), author of The Bonesetter’s Fee and Other Stories, shortlisted for the Carmel Bird Digital Literary Award; Laurie Steed (WA), author of the Dorothy Hewett Award-shortlisted collection Greater City Shadows; and Kalem Murray (NT), winner of the 2024 Boundless Mentorship.

The Australian Short Story Festival is an annual celebration of short form storytelling. The Festival brings together local, national and international short story authors and oral storytellers in a culturally diverse and vibrant celebration of storytelling in the shorter form.
