In their third episode in celebration of the 2024 Australian Short Story Festival, the Totally Lit podcast recently hosted international guest Catherine McNamara, author four short story collections including the critically acclaimed The Carnal Fugues.
Catherine tells host Ky Garvey about her visit to the 2023 ASSF in Adelaide, the panels she’s part of this year and the ones she’s excited to see. Currently editing her next short fiction collection (due for publication in 2025) and revising a novel manuscript, Catherine compares her approach to each before moving into a discussion about writing, discouragement and motivation. Catherine finishes by outlining the writing retreats she hosts in the Italian countryside and her belief in “the cross-fertilisation of forms”.
