Australian Short Story Festival WA Director Susan Midalia recently sat down with Totally Lit podcast host Ky Garvey to chat about the 2024 Festival. Susan and Ky discussed the history of the Festival, the upcoming program, some of the featured writers, the Festival’s focus on emerging writers, the supportiveness of the WA writing community and the ASSF’s valuable partnership with the University of Notre Dame Australia. They also talked about the beauty and difficulty inherent to the short story form. As Susan says, “A good short story is short, but it strives not to be superficial.”
